Barbecues! Fireworks! Sparklers! What do all of these activities have in common? They all happen outdoors! When the sun sets and the night turns a deep blue, we need some form of light to illuminate the festivities. This is when fun luminaries come into play!
Luminaries are easy to make, and are perfect for any occasion. All you need is a little bit of inspiration, and you will be able to create ones for every holiday!
For 4th of July, stars and stripes rule all! In today’s blog post, I’m going to share with everyone how to easily make your own starry night 4th of July luminaries!
Supplies:
- paper bags
- star hole punch (optional)
- pencil
- scissors or x-acto knife
Draw star patterns onto the bag and carefully cut out the stars. Create big and small stars. You can also make any other designs you would like (try a fireworks pattern)! Fill the bottom of the bag with sand for weight and put a small tea light into the bag. Light up the candle, and watch as the starry night is illuminated onto the bag!
For a safer alternative, use battery operated tealights!
This project is easy, and can be modified any which way you like. Want to add stripes to the luminary? Go for it! The possibilities are endless!
