Spooky Milk Jug Luminaries

A few weeks back, I blogged about creating your own DIY paper bag luminaries. Since then, I’ve come across a few more types of DIY luminaries that we can make ourselves for Halloween! I’m all about finding new ways to decorate for the holidays! Today’s post will be to learn how to create luminary ghosts out of milk jugs! It’s good for the environment, and easy to make!

Supplies:

  • milk jugs
  • black permanent marker
  • string lights (also known as Christmas lights)
  • scissors or box cutter

These milk jug ghosts are extremely easy to make. With the marker, draw on a face for the ghost. You can vary the expressions (:O, :), :D just to name a few). On the back of the milk jug, create a large hole (this is where you’ll insert the light).  Voila! Milk jug luminaries!

If you are ever lucky enough to come across orange Christmas lights, you can turn these ghosts into pumpkins! Instead of a ghost face, draw in a pumpkin face. Tie a green ribbon on top (where the lid is) , and curl the ends.

You can use all sizes of milk jugs for this project, and the characters you want to use are endless. Taller milk jugs can be used to create Frankenstein heads. Use your imagination and the supplies you have on hand!
